Why This Recipe Works (And Why Coco Ralado Matters)

Here's the truth: you cannot make real beijinho without authentic coco ralado. Dutch supermarket coconut flakes are too large and don't have the right texture. This is the ONE ingredient that makes or breaks your beijinhos.

At Desapega, we stock authentic Ferbar Coco Ralado and Mimosa Leite Condensado – the same brands your avó uses in Brazil.

Beijinho Recipe (Makes 30-35 pieces)

Essential Ingredients (from Desapega):

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Cook the Mixture (15-20 minutes)

  1. Combine leite condensado, butter, and 100g coco ralado in a non-stick pan
  2. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring CONSTANTLY
  3. Cook 15-20 minutes until it pulls away from the bottom of the pan

Step 2: Cool the Mixture (2-3 hours)

  1. Transfer to a greased plate, spread to cool faster
  2. Cool to room temperature or refrigerate 1 hour

Step 3: Shape and Roll (10 minutes)

  1. Grease hands with butter, roll into balls (~2cm diameter)
  2. Roll each ball in extra coco ralado
  3. Place a whole clove on top of each beijinho
  4. Place in mini paper cups

Chef's Tips:

  • Too soft? Cook longer – it should be firm when cool
  • Too hard? Overcooked – remove from heat when it just starts pulling away
  • Make ahead: Keeps 3-4 days at room temperature, 1 week refrigerated

Other Brigadeiro Flavors:

Brigadeiro Tradicional: Leite condensado + butter + Toddy Chocolate Powder. Roll in chocolate sprinkles.

Brigadeiro de Doce de Leite: Leite Condensado Cozido + butter. Roll in crushed nuts.
