How to Use / Preparation

Stovetop Method (Traditional):

  1. Sort through the beans and remove any debris or stones.
  2. Rinse the beans thoroughly under cold running water.
  3. Soak beans in plenty of water for at least 8 hours or overnight.
  4. Drain and discard the soaking water.
  5. Place beans in a large pot and cover with fresh water (about 3 parts water to 1 part beans).
  6. Add aromatics like onion, garlic, and bay leaves along with your preferred seasonings.
  7. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1–2 hours, stirring occasionally, until beans are tender.
  8. Add salt only after beans are fully cooked to prevent them from toughening.

Pressure Cooker Method (Quick):

  1. Follow steps 1-4 above.
  2. Add soaked beans to pressure cooker with fresh water and seasonings.
  3. Cook for 20–30 minutes after pressure is reached.
  4. Allow pressure to release naturally before opening.
